    Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to common questions we get from customers. However, if you are looking to get a quote, use the "Contact Us" box to the left!
    Nope.

Smoke detectors save lives by providing a warning system but do nothing to extinguish a growing fire or protect those physically unable to escape independently, such as the elderly or small children. Oftentimes, battery-operated smoke detectors fail to function because the batteries are dead or have been removed. As the percent of homes in America that were “protected” with smoke detectors increased from zero to more than 70%, the number of fire deaths in homes did not significantly decrease.

Sprinklers provide a high level of life safety.

Statistics demonstrate that there's never been any multiple loss of life in a fully sprinklered building. In fact, residences with fire sprinklers lose 85% less property than those without sprinklers. The combination of automatic sprinklers and early warning systems in all buildings and residences can reduce overall injuries, loss of life, and property damage by at least 50%.

The odds are 1 in 16 million.

According to the factory Mutual Research Corporation the odds of a sprinkler going off accidentally are 1 in 16 million. In other words, you  are more likely to get struck by lightning or win the lottery than have a sprinkler activate accidentally. Moreover, all new sprinkler systems use sprinklers and piping that are rated for normal system pressures to 175 psi. These components can withstand pressure far in excess of that for short periods of time. All systems are pressure tested at 200 psi for two (2) hours as is required by the manufacturers and local fire codes.

    Nuh-uh.

Each sprinkler head works independently from the others and is activated by a heat only sensitive mechanism. In short, only the sprinkler over the fire will activate. If the fire spreads, then and only then will another sprinkler activate. In most home fires, only one or two sprinklers are actually triggered. Contrary to popular belief, burnt toast or smoke will not activate a sprinkler - only heat in excess of approximately 68°C/155°F.

    Consider this...

A residential fire sprinkler will expel roughly 15 gallons of water per minute while a fire hose sprays about 150 gallons of water per minute. In comparison, water damage would be far less than the alternatives.

    On the contrary.

You should receive a discount for having a residential fire sprinkler system. If you do not receive a discount that you feel is adequate, then shop around.
